One of my favorite decorations that is in Dylan’s Nursery are these simple puzzles that I painted! I came up with the idea when we moved my boys bedroom upstairs and I was trying to clean out some of the toys that had our playroom full. I love these puzzles and their look, but my boys have outgrown them.  But, puzzles are expensive and I had a really hard time thinking about getting rid of them.

Then it hit me – I’ve been painting everything else for her room, why not these puzzles?  So, that’s just what I did!

It was seriously so easy.  I just took the puzzle pieces out of the puzzles.  Sprayed the one set of the puzzle pieces yellow and the other set pink.  I probably did 4 thin coats on each piece.  Then for the puzzle bases I just sprayed them a solid orange.  I didn’t even both spraying the underneath side of the puzzle pieces.

It seriously took me a total of 30 minutes to do the 4 coats and allow them some dry time before bringing them in the house.  So easy, right?!?

Pretty fun I think!  I even think painting a shape puzzle really fun and hanging it on a wall would be so awesome!  I can’t wait to try another version of this in the near future!

Dylan’s Nursery – Decor and Name String Art

Written by Pam. Posted in Baby, DIY Craft, Home Decor, Renovation and Re-do

Hello everybody!  Today I’m gonna take you through the decorations I used throughout Dylan’s Nursery!  I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on her Nursery, so I used spray paint on A LOT of it, including: furniture, decorations & accessories!

To start out I’m just gonna share the spray paint colors I used on the decorations:

Rustoleum 2x Painters Touch – Lemongrass

Rustoleum 2x Painters Touch – Real Orange

Rustoleum 2x Painters Touch – Berry Pink

Rustoleum 2x Painters Touch – Dark Gray

Valspar – Tropical Oasis

Frame and Stand I already had and didn’t paint!

The right hand side of the dresser decorations are pretty much all stuff I had on hand that I just painted.  The Dream Sign I got from my sister back when I was prego with Nathan.  The three frames I got from a store here in Southern Utah that is no longer in business called IronWorks years ago and I spray painted all three of them!  The prints that are inside the frames come from FishTitch here!  The puzzles were something we had on hand and I have a follow up post coming on them!  The vase was from Tai Pan and the Candle and Candle Stick is from Ikea!

The ribbon board I’ve had FOREVER!  I do have the intentions of framing it sometime in the future!  The three hooks were a gift from my adorable niece, Rachael, and I just spray painted them to match the nursery!  The diaper bag (which is not actually a diaper bag) was a gift from my sister, Cortney!  It’s a Vera Bradley Bag and I love it!

I needed something simple to put all of Dylan’s bow clips on, so I put together this simple bow frame.  You’ve probably seen them all over Pinterest!  I basically just got a cute frame and then attached ribbon vertically on the back of it!

The adorable Dylan String Art sign from above my crib comes from my amazing talented friend, Jaesi, and her business Heart Strings Attached!  She can pretty much make anything out of string and nails!  You HAVE to go check out everything she’s done on her Facebook page and get your order in now!

The adorable quilt was a gift from my mother-in-law!  All the fabrics were from our local JoAnn’s!

And, I think that’s about it!  Again, I’m super happy with how everything turned out and I’m excited to continue to add to it and enjoy my baby girl in here!  Have a great day!

Baby Dylan’s Nursery Reveal

Written by Pam. Posted in Baby, DIY Craft, Home Decor, Pam's Family, Renovation and Re-do

DylanButton Baby Dylans Nursery Reveal

As you read this, I am probably sitting on my couch snuggling my 5 day old baby Dylan!  That or changing my 20th diaper for the day!  I thought it was time to share my sweet Baby Dylan’s Nursery with you all!  I am no Interior Designer, but I am pretty excited with how Dylan’s Nursery has turned out!   Especially since I honestly wasn’t planning on decorating much of a Nursery in the first place.  Remember how we were thinking of possibly building soon?  Well, because we were thinking we were going to be moving this year, I decided not to put a lot of energy into Dylan’s Room until we got into the new house.

But, then the thought of having my baby girl come home to the very dark and plain nursery, just was not okay with me.  How do you not make a cute little Nursery for your first baby girl?  Especially when the dark brown furniture made everything look boyish to me.

I’ll be honest – it’s not 100% done.  I have a few things I still want to do.  For example – the windows need a little something.  The room is on the smaller side and where the furniture goes in front of the windows, I didn’t want to do big curtains.  But, I ran out of time and energy!  So, I’ll figure out a little something in a few months when I’m feeling somewhat back to normal!

Just for a refresher – here is the somewhat before:

As you can see the crib and changing table were a dark wood and the dresser (bottom right hand corner) was an unfinished wood color.  All VERY plain and boring!  The whole room just had a dark feel to it.

So, here is the after:

So, what do you think?  Pretty fun, huh?!?  I’ll be breaking down the Nursery into a few follow up posts telling you what colors I used on the furniture, and go through the decorations, bedding, printables, etc!  So watch for those soon!

Changing Things Up!

Written by Lisa. Posted in DIY Craft, Home Decor, Renovation and Re-do

I get bored easily and thanks to spray paint it doesn’t have to get to pricey to change things up my house! I recently wanted to lighten a few things up in my house, so I painted both my side table and my bar stools Heirloom White Changing Things Up!. If you want to paint something in your house white, use Heirloom White, not plain white. I know if you look at the lid it looks kind of creamy. In your house though it looks white but it has just enough warmth to make it not look sterile. It’s the perfect color!

If you want to see how I paint I give all the steps in this post. Still afraid of spray paint? Don’t be! I finally have converted Pam! I didn’t do any prep on these except wipe them clean. Both of these had sheen to them and I did not have any problems painting right over it. I didn’t sand or strip them down, spray paint sticks just fine. I did these a couple of months ago and there has not been any chipping or any paint coming off. I have things I spray painted years ago and they still look great.

I do think it’s worth paying for a good spray paint though. My favorite is Rust-Oleum Painter’s Touch Changing Things Up!. It goes on smooth and goes a long way. I use to buy the cans of generic spray paint at Wal-Mart that were $1, but I always had to use 3 or 4 cans to get the same coverage I get from 1 can of Rust-Oleum. I also always give my paint a chance to cure before we really touch or use it. Usually I let it sit undisturbed for about 24 hours and then it’s fine. Our bar stools get a lot of wear so I gave them a distressed look.

The side table I just wanted really worn looking.

When painting furniture I think Satin is the right sheen. I did my entertainment center awhile back and didn’t want it to be shiny, so I used a flat sheen and it almost looks dusty. I have to wax it to keep it looking clean! Grrr! So frustrating! Satin has just enough sheen to make it look classy but not shiny. Spray paint is such an easy way to brighten and freshen up your décor, especially now that it comes in so many fun colors to choose from! Just beware once you start, its hard to stop! Our back yard looks good but it needs a table so we can eat outside. I can not believe how expensive patio furniture is. I’m on the hunt for a fabulous table I can revamp! Or maybe I will build a picnic bench. Stay tuned!

Make a Screen for Your AC Unit

Written by Lisa. Posted in DIY Craft, Gardening, Home Decor, Renovation and Re-do, Tutorials

I am so proud of myself! This is my first start to finish project that I have made all by myself.

ac screen thumb Make a Screen for Your AC Unit

I came up with the design by myself, cut all the wood, and did almost all of the labor by myself. I had to call the big guns in to do some of the hammering! It was a whim of a project last Saturday. We had a bunch of wood that my husband was going to cut up for firewood and I was sick of staring at the big hunk of metal that is our AC unit. It threw off the look of the garden and I really wanted to hide it.

Untitled 1 thumb1 Make a Screen for Your AC Unit

First I measured how tall I wanted it to be and cut three boards that length to be my upright posts. Then I measured how wide I wanted the front to be and started cutting A LOT of boards that length. I planned it so there was a good foot between my screen and the AC until because I didn’t want to cut down on the efficiency. I also only did two sides to mine so that there could still be a lot of air flow. Essentially I made an “L” shape.

photo 2 2 thumb Make a Screen for Your AC Unit

Next I built the front. I placed my two upright posts and then laid the top and bottom piece over them. I left an inch and half overhang so when I nailed my other side in the corner it would be flush.

photo 3 2 thumb Make a Screen for Your AC Unit

After getting the top and bottom piece nailed in, I cut more boards and spaced them evenly between the top and bottom. I didn’t hammer any of these in until I got all the boards in the right place and made sure the spacing would work out. Then I hammered them in.

The next side was where I needed to bring the big guns in. I had to hammer at a more awkward angle so the nails needed to go in faster and quicker so I had my hubs help me. I also got distracted and forgot to take picture of these steps – sorry! Essentially I hammered the the 2×4’s in the space I had left for them on the front. Then I laid it on its side and we hammered the last upright piece in to all those loose ends.

The last step was to attach this awesome hose holder I found at our local thrift store for $1  to the side of the wood. I’ve been waiting for my hubs to attach it to the stucco and I am much happier having it on the wood than the actual house.

It’s a much nicer view from the kitchen table!

Only a couple more projects to get to in the yard (at least that’s what I tell myself!) Even though everyone says you can plant on April 15th here in So. Utah I always wait until the last weekend because of the all the Spring winds we get. I got impatient and planted on Monday and we have had nothing but whipping winds since. Grrr! We are almost done with the landscaping and I could not be happier! It been 5 loooong years!
