boys Chicken White Bean Soup and 2012 Halloween Sneak Peak!

It’s almost Halloween and my boys are ready!  We got their costumes a little early this year, so they have been ready for a while!  I would say this is the first year that I have ever really wanted to Trick or Treat in our own neighborhood.  In the past our boys weren’t old enough or we hadn’t been in that neighborhood long enough to really feel the desire to stay and see all the neighbor kids, etc.  So, we had always gone up to my sisters neighborhood, along with my mom and other sister(s).

But, this year, we are going to attempt splitting our time!  We’ll start out the night Trick or Treating in our neighborhood and then head up to my sisters to get pictures with the cousins and enjoy our Hot Chocolate and Donuts!

We generally do a Soup Party on Halloween, but this year we did it early and carved pumpkins.  I always make my Easy Homemade Breadsticks recipe (double it of course) and then this year I made a new Chicken and White Bean Soup recipe that I got from a friend.

And, I’m gonna share it with you now!

Ingredients:

1 1/2 pound of Chicken, diced
1 Medium Onion
1 T Oil
2 Cans of White Beans
1 small can Diced Green Chilies
14 oz Chicken Broth
1 1/2 t Garlic Powder
1 t Salt
1 t Oregano
1 t Pepper
1 t Cumin
1/4 t Cayenne Pepper
1 C Sour Cream
1/2 C Whipping Cream
Sautéed the chicken and onion together in oil until the chicken is cooked. Put Chicken and Onion in a large pot and add the White Beans, Green Chilies, Chicken Broth, Garlic Powder, Salt, Oregano, Pepper, Cumin and Cayenne Pepper.  Bring to a boil and let simmer for 30 minutes.   Add Sour Cream and Whipping Cream and let simmer for another 15-30 minutes.

If you’re making the soup ahead of time – after I saute the Chicken and Onion I add everything in my crockpot and let simmer in it. 30 minutes before wanting to serve I add the Sour Cream and Whipping Cream. This is a great make ahead soup!

Serve with tortilla chips, cheese, guacamole or whatever sounds good on it!  Yum!

Here’s a list of some other super yummy soup recipes that would be a great choice if you have your own Soup Party!!

Kids Halloween Movies

halloween movies Kids Halloween Movies

You guys came through on our Facebook page with some great suggestions for Halloween movies to watch with kids. I had one reader email me about 10 – THANK YOU! I decided to throw a quick list together to share.  I hope we can actually get to them all next year. There are so many! They range from toddler age up through tween age.

Many of the titles can also be rented through Amazon Instant Video if you want to view them prior to buying!  Also, if your child has a favorite TV show, most likely it will have a Halloween special, so be sure to search that out!  Happy Halloween all and enjoy some Halloween movies!

We would love for you to leave any other suggestions that we may have missed via a comment!  Thanks so much!

Pumpkin Poop {free printable}

Written by Lisa. Posted in Free Printables, Halloween

This year we entered the realm of school stores! Caleb gets to host a store in his class by providing something to sell to his classmates. I gave him a budget to work with and we went to the store to check out his options. He decided to sell the orange puffs that I wont ever buy them and they always beg  politely ask for. I suggested to up his marketing strategy by calling them pumpkin poop.

He’s 8, and therefore thinks anything poop is incredibly hilarious and also that I’m a true genius (thank you Pinterest!)

There are other printables out there, but most are bag toppers. I wanted to get more out of each sheet so I made my own. There are 9 to a sheet and we printed them on 3 different fun colored papers. Then we cut them out, punched them, and tied them up.

Caleb made his store’s sign and he is all ready to go.
