Coffee Table to Lego Table Makeover

I have been so excited for my boys to get old enough to really get into Lego’s!  We’ve had an old coffee table in the playroom that I knew would be perfect to transform once the boys were ready, so a few weeks ago (before baby Dylan’s arrival) we decided to put it together!

We referenced Lisa’s tutorial from her post a few years ago, but when I checked with her she did let me know she’s had a few corners lift, so we added some reinforcement.

We started with ordering the Lego plates ahead of time!  Amazon limits you to 5 lego plates per order, so I had to place orders under two separate Amazon accounts to get all mine here.  We needed 8 plates.

The weekend we decided to do it we went ahead and sanded a few areas lightly and repainting the table the day before:

Then the next day (after letting it dry overnight good) we went ahead and laid all the lego plates out and measured the few that needed to be cut.  My husband, Scott, just used a large razor blade to cut the plates that needed to be cut.

Then after laying them all out to double check that we had the plates cut perfect to fit the table, we started glueing the plates down 1 by 1 using Liquid Nails.

Because Lisa had had a few corners lift over time on her table, we took tiny little nails and nailed down the corners of each plate.  What length of nail you use will depend on what table top you are using to create your lego table!

Because of the lego “bumps” we couldn’t get the nails immediately flat with a regular hammer, so we started by just getting them placed.

Then we used a Punch to hammer them flat!

And, that’s it!  We were done!

We took it back up to the boys room/playroom and they’ve been in heaven since!

Dylan’s Nursery – Painted Puzzle Decor

Written by Pam. Posted in Baby, DIY Craft, Home Decor, Renovation and Re-do

PuzzlesButton 297x575 Dylans Nursery Painted Puzzle Decor

One of my favorite decorations that is in Dylan’s Nursery are these simple puzzles that I painted! I came up with the idea when we moved my boys bedroom upstairs and I was trying to clean out some of the toys that had our playroom full. I love these puzzles and their look, but my boys have outgrown them.  But, puzzles are expensive and I had a really hard time thinking about getting rid of them.

Then it hit me – I’ve been painting everything else for her room, why not these puzzles?  So, that’s just what I did!

It was seriously so easy.  I just took the puzzle pieces out of the puzzles.  Sprayed the one set of the puzzle pieces yellow and the other set pink.  I probably did 4 thin coats on each piece.  Then for the puzzle bases I just sprayed them a solid orange.  I didn’t even both spraying the underneath side of the puzzle pieces.

It seriously took me a total of 30 minutes to do the 4 coats and allow them some dry time before bringing them in the house.  So easy, right?!?

Pretty fun I think!  I even think painting a shape puzzle really fun and hanging it on a wall would be so awesome!  I can’t wait to try another version of this in the near future!

Dylan’s Nursery – Furniture Painting

Written by Pam. Posted in Baby, Home Decor, Renovation and Re-do

This was my first time every painting furniture! I had seen about 1000 tutorials online, so I wasn’t expecting it to be super hard. But, I had no idea that it would be SO easy!

I decided to start out spray painting the changing table and some of the decorations!  I didn’t tell my hubby ahead of time that I was attempting this.  He had been SO busy at work and I didn’t want him to feel in any way obligated to help me.  So, I literally just jumped in.  I had talked to Lisa and she had told me when it comes to spray paint to not use anything, but Rustoleum’s 2x Painters Touch!  And, was she ever right!  The changing table I had bought before Nathan was born and it was a dark brown with a shiny finish.  I didn’t sand it or anything first!

I would basically go outside and spray a coat and then go inside for 15 minutes and then go back outside and spray another coat.  I finished the changing table in an afternoon and it took probably about 6 or so light coats of paint.  The color I chose for the changing table (and dresser) was Rustoleum’s 2x Painters Touch – Winter Gray!  When I got it inside the tiny hint of blue stands out a little more then it did outside.  But, I actually liked the blue hue!

The next day I decided to tackle the crib!  My hubby (who was now in on my plans), broke the crib down for me and took it out to the garage!  For the crib I went with Rustoleum’s 2x Painters Touch – Heirloom White!  This particular day I was watching my sisters kids, so I wasn’t as good as staying on top of my coats.  The crib ended up taking about 12 cans of spray paint and it took me two days to finish!

The next week, when it was time for the dresser, my hubby was not about to have me out spray painting for our entire Saturday.  So, he decided to get involved and pulled out the big gun – the air compressor and spray gun.  We had actually never used the spray gun before.  But, I can promise you that it’s going to be getting a lot of use in the future.

Rustoleum 2x Painters Touch is mostly a spray paint line.  They have very few colors that you can buy by quart or gallon.  So, we had them color match the Winter Gray to their Behr Paint and Primer in One line.  The color turned out perfect!   Also, just if you were wondering, the dresser probably only took about a pint of paint.  So, it actually makes it cheaper to paint furniture this way vs using spray paint.  The spray paint is just under $4 a can and I would assume the dresser would have taken around 8-10 cans.  I spray painted the knobs from the dresser using the Rustoleum 2x Painters Touch – Heirloom White.  Painting the dresser with the spray gun literally took barely over an hour.  And, that was letting it dry good between coats!  SO MUCH FASTER!

I was so beyond happy with how everything turned out!  I can’t wait to paint even more stuff from around our house!  Good luck painting and let me know if you have any questions!

Written by Pam. Posted in Baby, DIY Craft, Home Decor, Renovation and Re-do

Hello everybody!  Today I’m gonna take you through the decorations I used throughout Dylan’s Nursery!  I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on her Nursery, so I used spray paint on A LOT of it, including: furniture, decorations & accessories!

To start out I’m just gonna share the spray paint colors I used on the decorations:

Rustoleum 2x Painters Touch – Lemongrass

Rustoleum 2x Painters Touch – Real Orange

Rustoleum 2x Painters Touch – Berry Pink

Rustoleum 2x Painters Touch – Dark Gray

Valspar – Tropical Oasis

Frame and Stand I already had and didn’t paint!

The right hand side of the dresser decorations are pretty much all stuff I had on hand that I just painted.  The Dream Sign I got from my sister back when I was prego with Nathan.  The three frames I got from a store here in Southern Utah that is no longer in business called IronWorks years ago and I spray painted all three of them!  The prints that are inside the frames come from FishTitch here!  The puzzles were something we had on hand and I have a follow up post coming on them!  The vase was from Tai Pan and the Candle and Candle Stick is from Ikea!

The ribbon board I’ve had FOREVER!  I do have the intentions of framing it sometime in the future!  The three hooks were a gift from my adorable niece, Rachael, and I just spray painted them to match the nursery!  The diaper bag (which is not actually a diaper bag) was a gift from my sister, Cortney!  It’s a Vera Bradley Bag and I love it!

I needed something simple to put all of Dylan’s bow clips on, so I put together this simple bow frame.  You’ve probably seen them all over Pinterest!  I basically just got a cute frame and then attached ribbon vertically on the back of it!

The adorable Dylan String Art sign from above my crib comes from my amazing talented friend, Jaesi, and her business Heart Strings Attached!  She can pretty much make anything out of string and nails!  You HAVE to go check out everything she’s done on her Facebook page and get your order in now!

The adorable quilt was a gift from my mother-in-law!  All the fabrics were from our local JoAnn’s!

And, I think that’s about it!  Again, I’m super happy with how everything turned out and I’m excited to continue to add to it and enjoy my baby girl in here!  Have a great day!

Baby Dylan’s Nursery Reveal

Written by Pam. Posted in Baby, DIY Craft, Home Decor, Pam's Family, Renovation and Re-do

DylanButton Baby Dylans Nursery Reveal

As you read this, I am probably sitting on my couch snuggling my 5 day old baby Dylan!  That or changing my 20th diaper for the day!  I thought it was time to share my sweet Baby Dylan’s Nursery with you all!  I am no Interior Designer, but I am pretty excited with how Dylan’s Nursery has turned out!   Especially since I honestly wasn’t planning on decorating much of a Nursery in the first place.  Remember how we were thinking of possibly building soon?  Well, because we were thinking we were going to be moving this year, I decided not to put a lot of energy into Dylan’s Room until we got into the new house.

But, then the thought of having my baby girl come home to the very dark and plain nursery, just was not okay with me.  How do you not make a cute little Nursery for your first baby girl?  Especially when the dark brown furniture made everything look boyish to me.

I’ll be honest – it’s not 100% done.  I have a few things I still want to do.  For example – the windows need a little something.  The room is on the smaller side and where the furniture goes in front of the windows, I didn’t want to do big curtains.  But, I ran out of time and energy!  So, I’ll figure out a little something in a few months when I’m feeling somewhat back to normal!

Just for a refresher – here is the somewhat before:

gifts Baby Dylans Nursery Reveal

As you can see the crib and changing table were a dark wood and the dresser (bottom right hand corner) was an unfinished wood color.  All VERY plain and boring!  The whole room just had a dark feel to it.

So, here is the after:

So, what do you think?  Pretty fun, huh?!?  I’ll be breaking down the Nursery into a few follow up posts telling you what colors I used on the furniture, and go through the decorations, bedding, printables, etc!  So watch for those soon!
