I haven’t had a chance to actually print these and get them ready to display, but I’m super excited about them!  I’ll add a picture once I get my Christmas Decor down and get these printables up!  I am loving the Chalkboard look (along with most everybody else) and know these are gonna add a fun touch to my house in January!  Enjoy!

Lisa’s 2012 Family Theme and Dinner

Written by Lisa. Posted in Holidays, New Years, Traditions

This will be the third year our family is doing a Family Theme for the year. John and I spend a couple of weeks thinking about and discussing a virtue or characteristic that our family needs to work on. Two years ago it was Gratitude, and last year it was Peaceful. After we pick our theme we find a scripture to go along with it. Our 2012 theme is Patience.

We also have a big fancy family dinner on New Years where we introduce our theme for the year. We set the table with our beautiful china and break out the boy’s silver cups and forks they got when they were born from Grandma and Grandpa. Davis really wanted Spaghetti this year and I couldn’t argue with his big brown eyes.

John gives a big toast before we eat! Being able to “cheers” our apple cider is the boys favorite part!

At dinner we talked about how being patient with someone is showing them love and kindness. John and I each shared ways we are going to work on being more patient with them, and we had each boy share a way they could be more patient with each other. Lastly we talked about how we also need to show patience with ourselves, and how we all make mistakes but we need to not get frustrated with ourselves as we learn and grow.

Whenever we use our china we try to teach them more formal table manners. It usually works pretty well….but not with spaghetti!

New Years

First, the girls at Eighteen 25 offered this adorable New Years Subway Art!  I am going to switch my frame out as soon as Christmas is over!  So fun..! And, I think I’ll keep it up until it’s time for V-Day Decor!

When it comes to New Years Eve, we don’t do much.  Our kids are still young, but I have been thinking about it a little lately.  I want New Years to have traditions….. to be something that our kids have memories of.

So, this year I think we are going to let Nathan stay up a little late and then do a pretend New Years at 10:00 pm with the East Coast New Years celebrations on the TV!  We will have a few decorations up, games, drinks and treats!  We’ll invite the cousins over too!  I’ll even let Nathan hit pots and pans (in the backyard probably) if he wants!  It will be simple, but fun!

I found this post from Parties4Me on Minute to Win It Games and I am going to choose some of them for us to play!  I have heard they are a blast and bring non-stop laughter!

I also loved this idea of doing a New Years Countdown Box from The Dating Divas!  If you have little ones, then could even have the the bags be little gifts for each kid!

Remember that the beginning of a New Year is something to celebrate!  Look back on your many blessings and the things you learned from!  I absolutely LOVE the idea of starting over and improving areas of my life!  Have a fun Holiday Weekend with your loved ones and BE SAFE if you are traveling!
