Showing the Love!

Written by Lisa. Posted in Lisa's Family, Traditions, Valentines

We had a great Valentine’s Day! In all of my other preparations I forgot that this year Caleb had to make his own Valentines box. We threw this together at about 10:00 the night before. Caleb loves Legos so we all dug into some applesauce sauce cups that night to make the Lego tops, then I glued them onto a shoebox.

This turned out to be one of those great projects where necessity up making a great project! We were out of black spray paint so I used chalkboard spray paint. I didn’t think it would work very good but because of the rough surface of the cardboard box it worked great! Caleb thought it was pretty cool and was so excited to let everyone chalk his box the next day. I was just glad we came up with something in time!

As for our traditional family dinner it was awesome! I had seen on Pinterest to use wrapping paper as a table runner and I found this amazing paper in the Target $1 section and fell in love with it.

I also found this cute printable from A Geek in Glasses. My printer was out of ink except for magenta and black so it actually printed in Valentines colors which was perfect for my table.

How cute are these mini Martinelli’s bottles!

Each Valentines we use our china and practice our best manners. We each leave treats and cards for everyone in the family. Its such a fun tradition that my Mom started.

Some of our favorite things for the plates are toys for the summertime and of course See’s candy!

Strawberry Shortcake Kabobs with Vanilla Mousse Dipping Sauce

Written by Lisa. Posted in Dessert, Family Home Evening, Valentines

For our Family Night treat this week I felt like making something fun, easy, and in the spirit of Valentines day. This is what I came up with!

Untitled 1 thumb Strawberry Shortcake Kabobs with Vanilla Mousse Dipping Sauce

It was super easy and my family loved them!

First I washed my strawberries, cut the tops off, and let them dry completely. I melted some chocolate and dipped half of the strawberry into the chocolate. Then I let them dry on the wax paper. I didn’t want to dip the whole thing because I wanted to push the kabob stick through the strawberry and didn’t want the stick to push the chocolate off of it. I also baked my favorite Cream Cheese Pound Cake and allowed it to cool.

I cut the pound cake into squares and then put them on the sticks alternating between the strawberries and cake.

I felt like the cake might be dry to just eat plain so I made a vanilla mousse to dip them in. To make the mousse I made vanilla pudding and then mixed in whipped cream to make it light and fluffy. I gave everyone a couple of skewers and a little bowl of dipping sauce.

Yummy and fun is a great combination! Hope you all have a great Valentine’s Day tomorrow!

Our Favorite Valentines Books

Our Book order came in with some new books for Valentines Day! Here are some of our favorites and a few that I want to add to our collection. I know some of these are not specifically Valentines books but they tended to get lost in our bookshelf. We have a seasonal book basket that we switch out each season and holiday to read from. I feel like they get read more now that we rotate through them with the Holidays.

Valentines Decor and Felt Hearts Banner

Written by Lisa. Posted in DIY Craft, Home Decor, Sewing, Valentines

We turned our long weekend into a Star Wars weekend! Up until this point I hadn’t let the boys watch Episode 1, 2, and 3 so we decided to watch all 6 in order (Beckham and Davis only got to watch parts of Episode 3.) It was a blast! I just cant quite keep my hands still though so I decided to make a cute felt Valentines bunting while we watched the movies.

First I cut a heart out of card stock that I liked. Then I traced and cut the hearts out of felt. I used the fold of the felt to make sure both sides were exact.

I tried to use tape to keep the hearts together while I ran them through my sewing machine but it didn’t want to stay together – FAIL.

Instead I just ran the machine through the heart and then when I got to the end I lifted my foot up and put the next one in.

I got a little carried away and made a lot of it so I strung it up all over our house icon smile Valentines Decor and Felt Hearts Banner

I was more excited to see the pillows I sewed last year. They were the first sewing project I really had attempted!
